Sustainability

We do our best every day

We recognise our responsibility to support and safeguard the communities we work with, ensuring we minimise the environmental impact of our operations. We constantly look at ways to support and upgrade the livelihoods of communities around the gem mines.

We work within systems, frameworks and regulations stipulated by international, national and local entities while constantly looking for ways to do better to reduce our impact further.

People

Community Welfare

We collaborate with community leaders around the vicinity of the mines to identify families and individuals who require skill development, regardless of whether they are involved in the gem or mining industry. Over the past decade, we have established two skills upliftment programmes in the regions where we operate.

Workforce

We work with a multi-ethnic group of men and women who are resourceful and highly skilled.

Skills enhancement

Our 110-strong workforce is our greatest asset. We have in place a skills enhancement programme designed to provide our staff with continuous training development enabling them to grow professionally and in turn enabling us to maintain the highest quality standards our customers have come to expect from us.

Gem Sourcing

We source from open-pit shallow mines, considered far safer than mine shafts and caves which often present unsafe conditions for workers. Once the gemstone-embedded rocks have been taken out of the pit we refill the pit with earth from the next pit in a process termed “back-filling” and then replant it with plants similar to what was present before the excavation.

Sourcing Policy

As a responsible corporate entity, we work with partners who share our approach to business and have in place a stringent system to source stones from those who adhere to international and national regulations and have in place a sustainable approach to mining.

Gem Cutting and Polishing

Our gem-cutting and polishing processes use chemicals that are non-polluting, non-residual and non-toxic to people and the environment.
